Yeah, so my little girl will be 14 next Monday on 'Knocked-over six feet' (October 16th) That's how I taught her to remember her birthday when she was little. DeeAnna lives in Sacramento with her father. I live in Connecticut near my son, Erich. It sucks being all the way across the country from one of your children. Someday....
I like this picture, it was taken March 2000 when the three of us lived in St Helena..that's in Napa Valley,Ca. Our place was small & we were poor, but we loved each other! All I have to say to my son, Erich, is 'Remember that brownie?' and he'll laugh, then we'll start talking about the old days....
We ate venison, elk, wild rabbit & turkey stocked up in our freezer from our neighbor Tod, Mr. Ogletree would bring us milk, canned goods and day old bread as well as other goodies every Tuesday from the food bank. One day he brought us some brownies...We didn't get to eat 'goodies' very often. I remeber the three of us eating those brownies REALLY slow...those were the BEST brownies we had ever tasted. I sent Erich to buy a turkey for Thanksgiving 1999 with the last $5.00 we had in foodstamps. Christmas we gave each other something we had made, or was a personal item that we held dear. Twice a week we would ride our bikes to the library and hang out for HOURS! On Erich's 15th birthday, he wanted to walk DeeAnna to her first grade class and meet everyone. On 'hair day' I dressed up DeeAnna's hair with the turkey feathers she had helped Tod pluck one day...she won! We had a creek on the property, and we would go 'rocking' and found some pretty cool ones. One day I made fishing poles out of chop sticks, invisible thread & a pair of earings! Those were the days....
